Agreed. This is a dumb dangerous hack. The popular altoids charger is more complex for a reason. LH, if at all possible I suggest taking this post down or editing it with a disclaimer before people damage their expensive gadgets.

I love how cutting a USB cable and taping it to 9 volt battery snap is probably considered hacking to some people. I wish people who have no expertise in electronics, would stop doing this dumb shit. I have an electronics degree, and this kind of crap makes me cringe.

I'm sure the TSA is going to be quite impressed with all the money you saved.

This guy literally just hooks up a USB cable to 4 AA's with no resistor or regulation circuitry. Thats 6 volts instead of 5. NiMH may be 1.2v nominal but they can reach 1.5 hot off the charger. Go ahead and try this if you want to burn out your expensive devices.

2 (full disclosure: I'm a programmer by trade, so I may be a little biased here). Yes, yes it is. Solely blaming a bug in a product for data loss that was caused by user being dumb and having only one backup solution is completely irresponsible and makes me view her piece as less of a PSA

Headline for source article should read: "How my own stupidity and a bug in Dropbox permanently deleted my 8000 photos"

Does this situation suck?
Yes, yes it does.
Do I feel sorry for her (or anyone willing to put all of their digital eggs in one basket)?
Not a bit.

"$1,700 worth of equipment, which is pocket change for any experienced burglar." This statement is completely wrong, as well as the theme of this article.

An external battery. What- you don't already have one? You either are one of the lucky ones who don't use their phone ever/has really good battery life/has constant access to an outlet or you carry your wall charger around with you and are constantly hunting for a wall outlet.

The day I realize you're tracking whether or not I open your emails is the last day I ever read any of your emails.

Given that where I'm at, my five day forecast including todays has highs like this... 91, 95, 99, 95, 96... I think I'll keep my AC blowing strong.

I would say that's a direct reflection of [your] incompetence to use the internet. I personally have not gotten the Search Conduit malware, but my roommate has like 5 times. I want to bang my head against the wall every time I have to remove it.

One more reason for me to leave Chrome.

I'll just continue to use Firefox until they feel I'm to stupid for the Internet.

People have been going nuts for all the Kirkland liquors, particularly the bourbon, here in the DC area since the Costco opened a year or so ago. Everything I've had has been excellent, especially considering the price.

I'll tell you one thing to buy at Costco, the rotisserie chicken. At around $5, that shit is GOOD and much cheaper than local grocery stores. Yeah, we can buy/cook it ourselves, but for a quick, already cooked, chicken dinner, it's hard to beat.
