Ohhhhh....this are bachelor/bachelorette parties. Bridal showers are kinda like baby showers but before the wedding....ladies get together for a (sober or relatively so) luncheon or tea and give gifts to the bride, and make her wear a hat made out of the bows from all the wrapping, and play other silly games.

How so? I can see some bachelor/bachelorette shenanigans being foul to some people (we are a stripper-free couple ourselves, personally, but we’re not gonna judge others), but bridal showers? If anything, they seem silly and frivolous (but hopefully fun!).

I think we may be more prudish nowadays. I was at a bridal shower recently where the mother of the bride got the bride some very pretty lace lingerie, and I was absolutely shocked. Maybe it’s because I’d never heard of it or considered it before, but I don’t think I’d ever be able to wear sexy lingerie given to me by

If you don’t want to, you can always decline one or both.

My mother had to explain an engagement part to me, because the families wanted one, but I didn’t even know what it was! Around here, at least, it’s apparently a chance for the families to meet early on in the engagement, especially if they haven’t done so yet.

You and I must have VERY different wedding experiences. Even the most involved wedding I’ve been in has had an engagement party (no gifts, only family), shower (only the closest friends, but with gifts, used the wedding registry if you like), bachelorette party (small, no gifts, all the girls pitched in & bought the

Are you arguing that guests shouldn’t give gifts, or that people shouldn’t register for them?

It comes in a whole bunch of colors! Just search for it by name on the site

Well at least it won’t cost you $1800...

(though as a jersey girl, i can understand you defending your particular state)

Dude, when I was 7 I felt a very spiritual connection to Native Americans after reading Island of the Blue Dolphins. Obvs, this fascination was focused more profoundly on Alaska Natives in particular after reading Julie of the Wolves.

I love it when comments match screen names. Consistency is key.

This auction started at £0.01. It is now at £1,150.00. That is over $1,800 USD. For a dress that, really, looks like a very sad shirt made out of very pretty lace in the photos.

I love her hair so much. If I weren’t so lazy about keeping up with mine, I’d be so tempted to copy it

Awwww, he is definitely not a fixer-type. He had just been listening to me rail against marriage for 3 years, and got whiplash when I changed my mind. Then, he had to do a really over the top romantic proposal - bed & breakfast, picnic on the veranda, fancy dinner, etc..... - which is why it took so long.

Actually, not with the sound on, since I’m at work.

????

LOL! Yeahhhh.....there’s way too much to keep up with.

One can only hope that this girl knew exactly who she was marrying, and what looks to us like barely contained anger is something more like fond exasperation.

That’s an awesome idea! I felt bad getting this really expensive piece of jewelry when he doesn’t, but I know he’d hate a ring. I may look into getting a watch for my fiance.
