Skynet wasn't built in a day

I wasn't planning on getting one (already have an iPad and a Nook) but was really tempted after messing with one in the store. Prefer the 7" form factor and it was much more responsive than the Nook IMO.

I have an old Touch Pro 2 I had prior to my current phone (Epic) that I kept to have as a backup. The other day I loaded the latest XDA Froyo build for it on there just to tinker. While it technically works (and a lot more smoothly than the video above - both the TP2 and the G1 essentially have the same guts) it's

It's almost like a more to-the-point version of the original Droid ads. While you'd never know it from most of the tech blogosphere there's a big segment of society that simply doesn't want to be associated with the Apple brand precisely because of the perceived 'me too' nature. The Droid ads thumped their chest and

I guess it must be a deal for us early adopters then. I just renewed an annual subscription a couple months ago for about $30.

Having tried all 3 there's pros and cons to each. One of the greatest things about Grooveshark though is you can find virtually anything (although they seem to be doing a pretty good job on DMCA takedowns from the most vocal labels/artists.) In my times with Rdio/Spotify I regularly ran into labels/artists without

Ditto. I've been paying for the premium Grooveshark service on Android for over a year now and got a kick out of how all my iFriends were pooping themselves when Spotify first came out. Tried it but couldn't understand the big deal as I'd already had all those features (and more) for awhile.

Generally speaking. I think once they started charging money though (ironically, in an attempt to make a revenue stream to fund the deals they do have in place with some of the other major labels) it opened them up to more toothy litigation. Maybe if they had the money to field the lawyers Google has they could

May actually venture out into the fray (at least briefly) at midnight so I can snag a memory foam mattress topper at Kohl's. Was going to pick up this week anyway, but might as well wait until Thursday night (I'm a nightowl anyway) and save ~$100. Screw the broader 5am land rush stuff though.

I've been a proponent of the viking funeral for awhile now

Agreed. This appears to be very much a case where there's a disconnect between Giz's view of the world and reality. Are MOST people regularly using QR codes? Probably not. But even if they only get used occasionally by a small percentage of people there must be enough reason to justify why they're being utilized.

I use ours almost daily, but echo the sentiment somewhat. For us, it's our coffee table device to surf and browse Facebook/Twitter while the TV's on. I tried the whole bringing it to work thing to see if I could make use of it there (meetings, etc) but my phone honestly is just as useful in that regard and my laptop

Meh. iOS gets top shelf apps before Android all the time (sometimes MONTHS before . . . sometimes exclusively, like Flipboard.) In this case it sounds like iOS users only have to wait a couple weeks. In the meantime, I can be patient with the current version on my iPad and tinker with this version on my Nook.

I highly doubt Apple will introduce a device that cuts the cord with backwards compatibility like they did with OSX or the switch to Intel chipsets. That's easy to do when you're in a minority market position. But the shoe's on the other foot with iOS and Apple hasn't shown they're any better than Microsoft when it

Ummm . . . most libraries using the Overdrive platform for its digital offerings (i.e., a ton of them) now offer Kindle access for their eBooks. In fact that's pretty much the main reason I'm picking one up for my wife. The process for getting them onto our Nook made it too tedious for her while all she'll have to

Nice OS, but just give it a viking funeral already.

I don't mind refurbs for most things but on something like a TV I tend to agree. Even with a warranty you could be out of action for who knows how long. Not something I could do with a main TV (which I assume a 47" TV would be for most people)

This honestly isn't that different than what they're already doing for similar free services once you cross a certain threshold (analytics, site search, etc.) Not unexpected at all IMO (in fact I kind of assumed they already had this in place.) And much like those other services I imagine we'll also see some

Agreed. I get a kick out of how some laud Apple for being this radically innovative design company when they've really proven to be no better than anyone else once they're in a dominant position. iOS is a great example. Take it a step further and look at their most used software platform to-date, iTunes. It's at

Agreed. Tablets are great for consumption, light utility work and/or work in select fields. But even in a Mac-heavy design environment (like the one I work in) they just aren't a suitable substitute for a full-on laptop - at least not yet. I've had quite a few reps venture through here in recent months trying to
