My understanding is a lot of these systems are “set it and forget it”, primarily to increase efficiency; set a temperature, and the HVAC adjust accordingly to least impact range, which is likely more efficient than constantly having to manually adjust the temperature.
They went upmarket in the 2000s and held that image up until Dieselgate, where quality took a noticeable nosedive (assuming because they had to allocate billions to the lawsuit and away from R&D).

Being able to ignore someone’s political view, and to remain completely unaffected by it no matter how good/bad, is the definition of privilege.
The design makes sense since the unlock button is at the top, and overall design forces you to hold it in a certain way. If the key was smaller the ergonomics would be off and not fit comfortably in the hand.

I think Volvo started this trend and were the first to use metal speaker covers, with the XC90 and their B&W setup. Speakers as a design element is nothing new though, Audi and their pop-up tweeters had a big moment 10+ years ago.
