Some do it better than others, but it’s still an easy cop-out for visually “sprucing” up an otherwise generic light assembly. I imagine a design student fresh out of school wanting to throw everything they learned at the wall with little restraint for editing down.

I’ve always thought they were cool. At the time it was considerably nicer inside and out than most of the alternatives and attempted to do what Mazda is doing today by going upmarket.

Alltrack owner here as well and planning on driving it into the ground (already 90k miles strong). The MK8 lineup is OK, but don’t see any major selling points worth the upgrade compared to the near perfect MK7 platform.

I recently bought a used Golf Alltrack and I remember thinking while cross-shopping “why the hell would anyone buy a Tiguan over this?” The psyche of bigger = better really is baffling (though some time bigger is better... but that’s a topic for another website)

FWIW most concept cars have suicide doors strictly because it shows off the interior design better; no B pillar block the view inside.

I admire Volvo, but I’m not sure about this design... the boxy dimensions are a great throwback, but the current design language has sensuality that this design is lacking, especially the frontend which looks like an Xpeng G3...

I’m not sure how Google would make money if it was any cheaper; all those license deals ain’t cheap. Also, most people I know split the cost between friends/family, so most are paying closer to $30-50/mo
