Many of those non Russians are not Ukrainian, they are also Slavic and Persian.

Ethnically, Crimea is nearly 70% Russian. Socially, Russians living in Ukraine are fairly oppressed and openly rediculed. I don’t find a succession vote that outrageous with or without Russian influence.

Crimea democratically voted to leave the Ukraine and Kiev wouldn’t honor their vote. The separatist state is majority ethnically Russian and have long been denied the same government influence in the majority Ukrainian government.

What has he done? Supported an ally in the midst of a revolution (Syria), supported the Crimean state after thier successfull independence referendum from the Ukraine.
