Not really a fad, at least for the Jeep pictured, there is a reason. In that situation, especially with JKs is that you can put on a larger tire by removing the fenders, and get more articulation out of your suspension. Also add in a wider axle (usually for strength and stability) and the wheels and tires get pushed…

Yeah, that’s the other item people miss out on when they go from a stock 29 inch tire to a 35 M/T; the braking is terrible. That’s one area that I still have to address on my JKUR.

I’ve never understood that mentality and live by the rule “if it works for you and you’re happy, more power to you”. Pretty much the same experience here. I was fortunate enough to have a LCS that did the same and were very welcoming to all who came in. The cool thing is that one of the employees bought the business from the owner and has had the same shop open for the past 20 years.
