Both vehicles are very relevant to my interests! At KOH, I saw a group of Miata’s all fitted with MT tires and lifted suspensions just having a blast in the desert and thought “Damn, that’d be fun to do”

You read my so-called mind!

This does seem pretty cool, in that it looks light enough to tow behind any capable SUV (and hopefully flat tow it rather than using a trailer).

This makes me think that I if I bought one of these, I would have a similar crash just driving off the trailer.

I can sit on the trail all day and watch 4x4s flop, roll and bash into rocks with no problem, but watching the clip and seeing those cool cars slam into the wall just makes me cringe

I think your friend probably got farther than one of mine, he broke at mile 9 I think with a completely destroyed rear axle.

Just got back and man it was fun! Have a friend that’s part of Jason Scherer’s team and it was cool to watch him finish first. Also funniest thing to see was a rig coming down Backdoor flop on the first waterfall, then to only flop again on the second, larger waterfall.

Also just started going through and uploading

On the surface, I really like the idea but as most have already pointed out, there are so many variables such as insurance, possible theft, etc.
It’d be nice to have a space/building where 5-8 people could chip in for rent and then have a place to work on vehicles and store their vehicles. I know it’d be nice to have

I’ve been very happy with my FJ and down the road, I’ll start modding that one and use it for expedition type of wheeling.

this is pretty cool and it’s nice to see that the diesel option will be available. I’m starting to contemplate getting a tow rig for my Jeep and I wonder what the numbers and/or differences between the F150, F250 and F350 will be.

Totally agree with this. If I change or upgrade a part, then it’s up to me to fix/change/replace it when it fails. On some Jeep Wrangler forums, there’s always one person who’s complaining that a dealership won’t warranty their broken front/rear axle shaft right after putting on 35 or 37 inch tires.

You beat me to it. I really like the 90's Crown Vic as a Baja pre-runner

I see what you’re saying about a “properly designed” IFS but as it stands now, there isn’t an IFS on the market that can beat out a solid axle. I have wheeled both IFS and a solid front axle and the solid axle beats out the IFS every time in articulation, strength and simplicity when on the rocks.

Did the same thing and got roughly the same price; $26k for a 2009 JKUR and $46k for a new one. Yeah, I’m pretty sure I’ll never buy a new Wrangler

Looking at the numbers, the JL seems to be a great improvement over the current JK’s (especially the transfer case), which is nice however, $40k+ for a wrangler? I know for me, and what I use my Jeep for, there’s no way I’d spend that kind of money on something that I’m going to abuse.

Cool article. To get a good glimpse of into the 4x4 scene, go to King of the Hammers in February, it’s like the burning man of off-roading except with more all kinds of rigs, alcohol and jackassary.

Now that you mention it, I’ve noticed the same thing as well, and I think it’s due to the growth of smaller cliques within the Jeep community. You have the hard core rock crawlers, the overland folks and the mall crawlers.

Or at least the option to get a stripped down Rubicon without the power doors, windows etc.
I agree with you on having a certain 4x4 chain work on my rig, I’ll buy parts from them but I don’t trust them with larger jobs. I’m happy to have 2 good 4x4 shops close to me to do the really hard work.

Or get the Sahara and use the left over cash you would have spent on the Rubicon on better aftermarket parts. I wish I learned that the first time I bought my JKU Rubicon.

Pretty much this, there’s tons of diversity when it comes to the overall 4x4 community (once you get out of the brand loyalty thing); rock bouncers, crawlers, expedition, pre-runners, etc. Granted there are those douches who talk a lot of crap about everything in the parking lot but I’ve found that on the trail, that
