MOST geniuses are pretentious and arrogant. But they're legitimately brilliant, so even though it's an abhorrent quality, it's almost fairly earned.
And then on top of that, the famous ones are going to frequently have whatever "controversial" things they say broadcast out, making them look terrible.

Who cares? Science isn't a popularity contest. He's not an entertainer craving your affection. Plus, given the obstacles it's quite difficult to discern his intonation. Perhaps you're projecting.

Read the article, didn't understand most of it but, it seems that it was a test tube experiment and the treatment angle is more of a "it's possible", than a proposal on how it should be done. They did mention something about possible use of the 'photo acoustic effect'.
