what if it’s a spouse determined to walk you, minute by minute through their typically terrible workday?

OK, so saying “I’m not allowed to discuss that due to pending criminal litigation” is not a good tactic?

Me?

Yes. Yes. Yes. Yes. A gajillion times yes.

Fighting this fight daily. I have a ‘too-smart-for-their-age’ 10 year old that is highly opinionated and is developing some strong talk-back skills. Any request by us takes several repeats with the volume going higher each time. Threats of removing privileges/access happen all too frequently. I completely understand

This is even weirder for me. I had a friend once do the 5 for $5 deal at Arby’s. Nobody wants to eat 5 roast beef sandwiches. They stop by Barnes and Noble later, and this dude smushed up a sandwich in the biggest book they could find, and then wedged it back into the shelf.

As another person who grew up (and still lives) in small town Tennessee: you can call it a simplistic reduction, but it’s fucking true. I can’t think of a single gun owner that I know (and I know a shit ton) who would even consider this for a fraction of a second.
