Terranigma is one of my top 5 SNES RPGs alongside Final Fantasy VI, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana and EarthBound. And considering I think the SNES is the best console ever for RPGs that's saying something of its quality.

Oh man, it's so good. I actually thought you'd like it more than Illusion of Gaia and Soul Blazer mainly because Terranigma is everything good about those two games rolled in to one. Quite surprising to hear that in all honesty.

Random Encounters have never been a problem for me. Pretty much all my favourite RPG ever are JRPGs with random encounters, the only exceptions are Chrono Trigger and EarthBound. I'm one of those 'rare souls' that likes random encounters.
