Less rent ($1000), utilities ($450), food ($600), commute expenses ($350) (car payment, insurance, gas or public transport), savings ($350) etc... does not leave a lot left over for the average household to pay for incidentals,…

So this is a value statement:

So you contend that a group (GM), that is letting plants close to avoid paying workers more, would willingly pay workers more without the other group (UAW) lobbying for if they weren’t there?

Then your complaint is with your industry, employer, and co-workers; NOT the UAW.  Don’t be mad because someone else is trying to avoid being exploited the same way you have.

Honest question:

If $1200/week is too much, what is the right number? What happens to those people when the wages are cut? Do the costs to survive suddenly dwindle to accommodate the lesser pay? I’ll tell you what happens, we all get shafted and end up picking up that delta as more people rely on social services that the tax base pays…
