Ohhhhh yeah. That would be way worse. I’m genuinely curious how they would have handled it had they not had him reveal his identity. An accident? Random violence? The old age? Would it have even been Aunt May or would they have used another character that would end up boning Peter and MJ?

I think the idea is that they planned on resetting the Spider-line with Mephisto wanting the Parker marriage, so that just gave them an opportunity to include his identity as part of the deal.
