I love this kind of game but looking at the gameplay and the massive spreadsheet use, It would take me decades to get to the level of most players, while being a casual player myself.

Yes it is and the gritty effect is amazing. it works perfectly. However a third person perspective would add to the experience, although such a game would need to be massive in scope for it to truly work as a sandbox survivor. Otherwise the narrative would be too narrow and mostly guided scenario.
