Comedy, action film, drama, tragedy.... all just labels. They only serve to help coerce your mindset into a certain mood before watching a movie or to help set up a mental bias so you will be more likely to interpret something in a certain way. Well, that and they help you sort your DVDs on your shelf.

It kind of is..... Slice of life anime aren't always comedies and they aren't always dramas. Such broad and general categories really don't work here.

And on an aside note, I really don't see the show as wanting to make you laugh at time. Yes, some situations can be somewhat funny but you're free to interpret them anyway you choose. I was always under the impression that the manga was written to see who would laugh and who wouldn't. Would you become one of the

I like the show because it's relatable. I understand everything she's going through right down to when situations seem to be specially crafted by a story board committee for maximum psychological scaring.

The US infrastructure is shit. Roads, trains, electrical wires, water pipes, gas mains, sewage treatment and even our telecom all are crumbling and far behind the rest of the world. It's no surprise more and more companies are going over seas, it's cheaper to turn your lights on, you have faster data transfers, safer

New ALIEN aircraft.

I sort of find it insulting that they thought that by saying something you can plainly see isn't real that people would just derp over and believe the government over their eyes. I mean, ok, most Americans are absolutely that fucking dumb, but still.... it's rude.

Also there's something to do with some divine architect guy and the whole dragon attack ploy being a sort of proving ground for the next poor son of a bitch to rule over things.

That implies you hold some level of definite truth here, that preference has no role in the matter at hand. You're entire dissertation comes off as "You're fucking stupid, why would you do that?" and even your analogy implies you are under the assumption you hold some superior knowledge which I'm too ignorant to

You're exactly right. It will be my problem. I neither require nor desire your concern. I've made the right choice for myself just as you have for yourself. You are doing no good deed by trying to dissuade me from the path I currently walk.

Tiffa's all like "That pink haired bimbo over there is stealing all of my thunder!"

I really can't think of any High Fantasy off the top of my head, tbh. Maybe my standards are a different than yours but I really don't think we've ever had a good high fantasy movie or TV show. Maybe the Dark Crystal? From my standards there have been far more high sci-fi than high fantasy examples in popular culture

Ok 3 examples with woefully tame magic use. Actually, I'd say that Eragon's wasn't really that nuts, but the over writing itself was lacking.

Wow, 3 TV shows. One of which is actually sci-fi and other 2 of which are like One Tree Hill but with dead people and vampires.

The magic in both of your examples is woeful and tame.

I think you woefully underestimate how fickle and shallow the average movie goer is. The second some folk see a wizard cast meteor shower or a star ship fire a wave motion gun a movie loses all credibility. Suddenly every each fantastic element becomes another thing to roll one's eyes at. Fantastic is practically

That looks like something you'd fight in an old, PS1 era final fantasy game!

That's the problem, the over prevalence of low fantasy and low sci-fi. It dulls the taste buds. If over used it's not a gate way drug that raises your immunity to larger doses but a crutch that holds you back and helps to maintain lower expectations.

Avenges sold as much as it did because of big names and marketing. Not to knock the movie because it really quite is amazing but if it weren't for some big, A-list celebrities and huge name brands it wouldn't have done even a quarter as well as it has.

Au contraire. You can. It's not even that much of a hassle.
