As I said in another post there's real life and then there is "real life". Games don't try to mimic real life but rather go for a game that's closer to "real life".

Well, who ever then. Neither politician will likely donate any of their unused campaign funds to charity because... well they're politician, not philanthropists! They don't do their "work" because they care about the country, they do it because it gives them power!

Yeah, That's totally fair criticism. Because Mit Romeny is donating all of his money to people who blow up abortion clinics, the Mormon church and gas companies. (those are things he stands for, right? I seriously have no idea what that clown believes in anymore).

Assuming I've deciphered your message properly, you're implying that one couldn't possible relate to the dull and poorly crafted personalities of a character from a game like Bulletstorm or Vanquish, right? Ok, then how about this, how the fuck can people relate to the blank slate characters like Commander Shepard or

I think the problem is that many publishers feel that by injecting these traits (ie: realism, gritty, dead-fucking-serious) there are not merely changing a game but are actually improving a game in a purely objective manner. It's like how when talking about graphics most people confuse "realistic" with "good".

As I see it the problem is that we lost the ability to imagine. Everything needs context but if the only context that people are able to relate to is "real life" or "people like me" then there is something fundamentally wrong with society.

People in marketing have insectoid brains and are not capable of comprehending human thought or emotion. That being the case it is entirely possible she will now be the basis for every 3rd female character because a few games with her in it got kinda popular.

I mean, they are both short.

IDK, it almost looks strange with Lilith not making that constant, blank stare.

More likely it'll be a generic fantasy movie with a generic set of enemies using the Monster Hunter name (which is soooooooooo popular in the US, mind you) to help sell the movie since we don't seem to get many more new IPs anymore.

Kotaku's just not the same as it use to be. A lot of good commenters have been scared off from constant changes in the comment systems and from tiring of some of the quirks that makes a Kotaku article a Kotaku article which has left a power vacuum that is being filled by people who thing that accusing some one of

No that's actually my main concern with most of Bioware's game. I find the idea of a blank slate protagonist isn't so much flawed as when you have a character who is CLEARLY not meant to be you who may or may not have his own personality who you, the gamer, then turns into either a monster, a saint makes them bipolar.

Because if you're opinions differ from that of the herd you're being pretentious or rude.

Because they have proven that rather than pandering to specific demographics you can make 1 or 2 games every year and tell everyone else to piss off. Because they exemplify the glitz and polish over substance mindset that has helped the industry feed an army of gamers who need instant gratification.

Syndicate and X-com were at the forefront of my mind. I'm sure those were neither the first and nor will they be the last games to get the shity, shooter reboot treatment.

And you're half in saying that most gamer's would say these because the "joke is thateven though it is how some gamers operate they would never or could never put it out on the table so frankly. But that's the "joke", if you will, that many gamers don't quite understand how this generation of gaming has influenced a

We barely even get JRPGs anymore, I doubt how we can get bad ones if we are hardly getting any to begin with.

I do, branch out quite a bit but they take a lot of shit for things that many American games are guilty of while the American games get nothing but praise.

I've played Mass Effect, Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout, Dragons Age, Dragon's Dogma and The Witcher (to name a few) and let me tell you something, they are all great games but when it comes to truly endearing and earnest emotional moments you won't find many in ANY of those games.

How about something like:
