Burns had beef with Ambrose Burnside stemming from The Battle of the Crater.

I’ll add another question - though there’s one less year on the contract, you’re also getting him for the full season. The problem with the deadline deal for a marginal team is that you lose a year of team control for less than a year of playing time.

Good Lord, how much must that thing weight. Big Wheels were awesome, in part, bc they were light and went pretty fast for something powered by a hyperactive 4-year-old.

^^^ This! Once most Americans stopped opposing gay marriage state-level GOP hacks had to find another issue they could use to whip up the base.

Promotion and Relegation is soooooo good. I love the fact that shit owners get punished with the value of their club taking a hit. In addition, the loss of t.v. revenue motivates them to release star players as they no longer have the money to pay them (not counting parachute payments). Good breakdown on the financial

I will say the rumors of Love for Melo feel like a bad take on sports radio. The type where a caller explains how their team’s trash is worth another teams young, cost controlled player. Not defending the Cavs front office, but Love for Melo is so one-sided for the Nicks.

The comment about having to drag her luggage “nearly two miles” is particularly tone deaf when compared to someone who left all their belongings behind to flee a war. I’d actually respect the comment more if it was Chris Berman b/c there’s no way he could haul a suitcase two miles.

My take — Ben Carson is not energetic enough to actually “do” anything to HUD. He’s unorganized and, while a conservative whack-job, once he left his surgical career behind has never accomplished anything other than to write books and appear on t.v. shows. My guess is he’ll be steamrolled by the organizational inertia

I blame John Lewis and the UMW. My grandpa was a member of the NMU and always said the CIO model of unions was too business cozy. He also got beat to within an inch of his life by Pinkertons agents during a strike in the early teens.

^^ A thousand times this. Everyone is “thirsty” to the extent that certain roles they take are obviously serious/prestige/oscar bait role. Hoffman in Rainman (1988), Hanks in Forrest Gump (1994), Bale in The Machinist (2004), Kingsly in Ghandi (1982). And, speaking of TheMachinist, I don’t recall Bale getting any hate

In Peter Stross’s weird hard SF novel Blindsight (2006), he spins vampires as predators from humanity’s past who are inherently autistic and affected by crosses as “the paradox of the right angle.” Book’s on the dry side, but an interesting take on vampires.

Agree. Side effect. I coach my son’s youth soccer team (Rec, U12). When the kids narrate their own highlights, they all switch over to an English accent. BTW: When the hispanic kids are farting around on the field, every now and them one of them will hit a high ball into the net with his bare hand and shout out “Hand

The genie was let out of the bottle when the Drudge Report published details of Bill Clinton’s extramarital affairs when he was being investigated, and subsequently exhonorated, for real estate fraud. Fox News fed the genie with 20 years of “people are saying” stories about the Clintons, Obamas, and any one who wasn’t

It makes me sad that, statistically, most of the people who starred these comments wear bifocals.

If I wanted 4th-grade puns I’d be reading Deadpan :)

A stack of 500 dollar bills equal in height to one Tim Kaine. This unit of measure made more sense when we all thought Hillary would win.

Maybe if the once Solid South had continued to vote for democrats instead of switching en mass to the GOP in the wake of the voting rights act I could muster up a tear for the workers of the South.

Even more than interleague play, I think cable/the net/always on sports drained the game of meaning. I was born in 1970. We never had cable until I left for college. My baseball viewing options were the Cleveland Indians and whoever they were playing (broadcast on WUAB-43). National league players were mythological

Why? They left it years ago (maybe 1994 with the Gingrich congress?).

A solid portion of Democrats have committed to vote against Hillary as well.
