I moved to Texas in 1993 just as the football culture was changing from “water breaks are for sissies” to “stay hydrated guys.” Too bad it took a couple of years of deaths in HS training camps to get the ball rolling.

^^ This. And it’s not just masculinist sports and military cultures. Tell someone you have cancer and they’re sympathetic. Tell someone you’re depressed and they tell you to “buck up.” I see it a lot at the uni. where I teach (18 - 22 year olds on their own for the first time, many paying for college on their own,

In the 50s, Miami University (OH) complimented their nickname of “The Redskins” by calling the bar in the student union the “Redskin Reservation.”

Agree - but I like the participatory nature of having everyone cheer. It does get tiresome, though, at the end of a meaningless game (blow-out either way) on a hot Texas afternoon in September.

Which is why they should switch to yell leaders like they have at Texas A&M. The yell leaders use hand signals to let the lower deck know the next cheer. The lower deck repeats the hand signal for the 2nd deck, the 2nd for the third until everyone in the stand has signaled they know what cheer is coming next. Then,

^^ That sounds like a driver’s worst nightmare. Wonder how hard it is to keep it straight when a driver gets fatigued?

The judges would have accepted J.R. Richards as well.

Weak Sauce. Had a friend who played competitive tennis in CA when Andre Agassi was on his way up. Every tournament were Andre came in second or third, his dad would stop the car on the way out of the venue and have Andre hope out and throw the trophy in the trash. I’m sure there was no relation between this and

Vizquel is borderline to be sure. A couple of things worth noting, though:

Watched IAWL on TV this year and was beyond pissed they cut that line.

I will always remember Listach as the player who beat out Kenny Lofton for the 1992 ROY. I was super pissed as Lofton’s numbers were better across the board and there was literally no argument for Listach (aside from grit).

That’s the problem. I coach soccer and had a really young team one year that was routinely crushed. Hated it when opposing coach pulled a player as my kids always noticed and were demoralized. Better coaches did soccer’s version of Hosier rules - ball won at midfield goes back to the keeper who plays it out from the

The cost thing cannot be overlooked. Guy is looking for his chance to start and has rep as a professional. In a league full of overpaid QBs who are average, but who’s cap hit denies their team the flexibility to pick up additional skill players, you could do a lot, lot worse than having Tyrod Taylor under center.

Not picking up Taylor is the cardinal sin here. No baggage. Veteran game-manager type quarterback. Broncos don’t need the QB to go out and win the game, they just need him not to give it away. Really hard to come up with a reason not to get Taylor that doesn’t come down to Elway’s politics or biases.

Can’t sue when you’ve fallen into the icy void of space.

One star for insight - 1/2 star penalty for 1950s “co-eds” language.

^^ Want to bet they’re not permitted to point out someone might be concussed?

^^ He’s going to be pissed when he sees his line is crooked.

^^ Exactly. Had one who found out that the hollow utility pole behind my house was way louder than a tree.

Yeah - he took that way better than you would think. That what makes the close up so damn disturbing. The way that leg looked you expect someone rolling on the floor pounding the court in pain.
