New kittens! They are six months old and very good boys. We’ve had them almost three weeks and they’re settling into our household very well overall. However, they seem to like me much more than my husband. I don’t know if it has something to do with his lower voice, or what. They’ll play with him, but are much less

Thank you. I really do think that our relationship with pets is a little like parenting and a little like friendship. They’re not quite our kids, and not quite friends like our human friends are, but somewhere in between.

It’s such a relief to know what’s wrong and have the resources to fix it. So many cats are so good at hiding their symptoms that illnesses can be challenging to diagnose. I wish you, kitty, and husband ever increasing health!

I think it’s pretty likely that he’ll struggle some more. Getting over loss tends to be a roller coaster, rather than a linear uphill journey. And in early grief, you generally tend to get lots of support and compassion from family, friends, your workplace, etc. making the first days and weeks more bearable. The grief

You can also get these for 19.99 plus shipping.

They make compostable plant based straws that feel exactly like plastic. Why these aren’t standard, why anyone uses paper, is incomprehensible to me.

Replying to myself just to repeat how much I miss my cat. I loved him so, so much. I keep posting these things because I find expressing my love for him quite cathartic. It makes me feel better to know that even one person might read this and understand how much I miss this cat. I’m still in denial sometimes that he’s

Indeed. Non-moderation is pretty good sometimes. Getting serious drunk once in a while can be extremely cathartic. It can also help you put off feelings you’re not ready to face. When my cat died (I know, I know, an animal not a person, but he was my buddy and my baby and I really was wrecked when I lost him) I

Fruits and vegetables. Really. Most people swear by the greasiest, carbiest food you can get, but I’ve found that some carrots, apples, whatever snackable veg you can stomach, will do you good. When I drink water I swear it goes right through me without actually getting into my cells, but moisture rich foods help the

I’ve actually found that eating something healthy helps a lot more than you’d think. Snacking on carrots and apple slices will hydrate you really well, because they hold the moisture in your stomach, unlike liquids, which sometimes run right through you.

Honestly eating some fruits and vegetables the morning after drinking will work some wonders. I figured that out too late. Spent too many years trying to ease my hangovers with the traditional morning after foods loaded with fat and simple carboyhdrates. Imagine my surprise when I only had baby carrots in the fridge,

Bob Ross is a dream for lulling me to sleep.

I’ve found that I very weirdly wake up feeling more refresed if I have a stiff drink or two, enough for a light buzz but not hammered, the night before. I know the research says that alcohol gives you lower quality sleep, but I genuinely do pop out of bed a little more alert. Perhaps staying in a lighter phase of

(Presumably “not drinking in excess” is the very best advice of all, so we can skip that one.)

It was definitely a thing among the health conscious and vegetarian types well over a decade ago. I ate a ton of it in college between 2005 and 2009.

This was SUCH a good episode.

Just want to say that I understand that you are clearly referring to voluntary dietary restrictions, which are most common among middle class and wealthy white people.

Oh for fuck’s sake. They’re clearly referring to the people who “went gluten free” by choice because it was trendy. I’ve met a ton of them. they’re the people who will insist that their entree be 100% gluten free, then order a regular beer.

I really love zoodles but they will always be a side dish. They’re temporarily filling and then an hour later I’m hungry again. Pasta can actually be a meal.

Sauteed in butter and white wine is pretty goddamn great too.
