Thanks for ruining my hopes and dreams, Joe. Haha! I own a Passat W8 wagon now, and a Touareg V10 TDI is on my list of cars I want to own at some point. I’m questioning that decision now. You really have to remove the whole drivetrain to do anything to the motor?!

funny you say this, I thinking about their reliability when  saw a V10 Touareg this morning and it was smoking.

I own one, and it is my new favorite winter beater! Everyone needs a lil W8 in their life... here’s the story:

Yeah, I had a B5 1.8T passat which I got for free, and I was ripped off.

My 03 W8 Tiptronic Wagon is currently at 157,000 miles. It had some troubles, mostly from the lifetime fill transmission not getting it fluids changed until it had 80k on odo. That’s when I bought it in 09 for $6000! I bought an extended warranty from Ford of all places and it paid for itself almost immediately. Love

Ugh, my first W8 burned its HID bulb out on me too, and of course in the winter time. Brittle plastics and torx bolts with clips on the back that break off so there’s no leverage to pull out. I was lucky enough to get the half of the driver’s bumper loose enough to get the headlight assembly free, so I had one bulb

AND PUT EM TOGETHER AND TELL EVERYONE I CRAMMED A VEYRON ENGINE IN MY PASSAT!!!

You don’t own a W8 Passat. A W8 Passat owns you (and your wallet).

Haven’t personally owned one, but ran pawn shops for several years and we had one that one of my employees gave a loan on. Really nice looking wagon in a silvery blue color. Sat in the warehouse for the required 60 days without collecting a payment, then lost $1000 on it at auction. Turns out all those pretty lights

This pic here is enough to scare me away. So many chains so many tensioners.

And now I have to have one in my life. Thanks a lot.

no big deal - headlights only cost about an arm and a leg to replace; have to remove the front end!

Until I saw the DeMuro review, I never would consider the W12 Phaeton, but it’s got so many cool features I might be sadistic enough to get one.

The difference was W12 Phaeton owners could afford it.

The W8 wagon 4motion 6speed is so epicly Jalop, though.

Assorted reactions, as usual:

He claims to be “thrifty”, but would prefer to sell his car for probably a loss of several thousand dollars instead of buying $800 worth of tires.

In this guy’s defense, the “mechanics” down at Jiffy Lube used to tell him that he needed new tires and nownthat his car doesn’t have an engine, there’s no one he trusts that can inform him.

If you want future proofing and are up for a bit of tinkering just be sure to avoid a carrier version of the device, buy unlocked.
