Ok - sure. But let's talk about how many roles are available for men vs. women, and how much that narrows even further if you have a slightly unusual look, as Swank does. (If you don't believe me that she qualifies as having an 'unusual' look, feel free to google her and see how often it comes up that she looks

They seem like women haters because they are. There's no other reason to value a fetus over a woman. It requires a hatred of women.

The thing that gets me? Hilary Swank has two Oscars for doing the exact tough, body transforming, wrenching roles that, when male stars do them, lead to nothing but high profile work and $$$$$.

It's so absurd it's almost funny how many but, but, buts people will pull out of their literal butts to justify institutionalized sexism. A woman who does the same job as a man and who has equivalent training, talent, and experience should make the same. Doesn't matter if she's in Hollywood, porn, sports, botany, or

Personally, I abhor the work culture of most of the US, and I equally abhor how much women are being pushed to buy into it by other women. I suspect we're going to see a generation of people who, as they get older, are going to regret having been office fixtures instead of human beings.

Your second paragraph is exactly why I couldn't really get into "Lean In." The entire theory of that book pretty much rests on the idea that the corporate ferris wheel is fine as is, women just need to get better at jumping on it.

Interesting that you mention that...It's always funny to me how much (especially) American feminism has bought into the corporate American mindset. Oh, men make stupid amounts of money for a movie? Women need to as well! We can't consider maybe cutting how much we pay the male stars.

Only people like ME deserve to be treated fairly.

It's all super complicated and I don't even think it's so much about pay than it is about roles available to women. There was a study of the top grossing movies of 2013: only 15% of protagonists, 29% of major characters and 30% of speaking characters were female. There just aren't as many roles for women out there.

ITT: a bunch of people who say, "I don't care, she makes a ton of money anyway!"

Disappointing how many people want to ignore the message because she's rich.

Yes.

Cue the "people who make a lot of money/more money than me cannot complain about institutionalized sexism and inequality" trolls. It doesn't matter how much money a person makes if their industry believes it's permissible to pay a man double, or ten times, or more for doing the same or materially similar job. Or, if

I suppose this means the Orthodox Christian lobbyists will also be demanding the immediate and complete cessation of production of military equipment, the sole purpose of which is to kill others?

Putin has been ramping up the Authoritarian stuff for a while and he is one of the types that absolutely loathes the way Russia has been bleeding influence and power since the end of the cold war.

There is also a political motive for this, Russia had only managed to reverse two decades of catastrophic male mortality and population decline in 2012. Its leadership has openly stated that if the country is going to recover and thrive (especially under Western Sanctions) it needs a fast growing and young population

I mean, it didn't happen in Russia, but it happened behind the Iron Curtain in Romania. All abortion and contraception (even condoms) was completely illegal starting in the 1960s up until 1989. The result was thousands of women dead from illegal abortions, starving infants because of forced overpopulation combined

Wouldn't be surprised if it was one of our country's religious "import" programs, lie with Uganda.

Can anyone explain to me where all this anti-abortion sentiment has come from over the past decade or so? Has it always been there in these groups and is just now getting media attention, or is it a recent phenomenon? I thought in most countries once pro-choice laws were passed, things tended to be settled, but recent

Last week a someone in one of my classes commented that he thought the U.S. was going to end up much like Russia if we didn't start passing legislation that actually helped the American public instead of restricting it. He was sort of joking, but I can see where he's coming from...
