I don't think the head crotch thing is about tricking you into liking them or anything like that. I think it is just a form of boundary checking. As in, they figure that if you don't put up a fight when they do it, then maybe you won't put up a fight later when they do something worse.

Don't you think that the nature of the joke and who is making it makes a difference? It was a joke at her expense, there's no reason why she should be expected to laugh at it.

Jokes aren't a justification for anything. Sometimes people laugh at cruel and awful things, and that laughter just makes it worse, not better.

In what sort of places are the polling locations there? Here in Australia they are mostly at schools and churches and there are plenty of them (which they need to be given that voting is compulsory). I just checked and there are three within walking distance of my house.

I love watching/reading about history that is focused on women. Most of the mainstream, non academic content ignores the lives of women. I don't know what it's like in the academic history world.

Ethically* companies are obliged to chase the best outcome for their shareholders with no regard for morals, society or the economy. Which is why the system is so damned toxic.

Basically, corporations are unions for investors, as without them they would have to go into business solo or in partnerships. Without having unions for workers, you end up with investors having far too much bargaining power relative to workers.
