Like pretty much everyone else here, it was super-obvious to me that they were lepers. I’m assuming it’s a condition that isn’t widely discussed in Japan, hence the ‘urban legend’ status?

Star Wars takes place in a “Low-Tech High-Tech” universe. It’s like... a little past Steampunk; Transistorpunk, maybe. Nevermind that they’ve got ubiquitous AI everywhere, trivial spaceflight and FTL, and so-on. It’s all chunky circuits and wires and you can fix things by hitting them repeatedly and the holograms suck.

I daresay some pretty twisted things emerge from the sump of my brain, too. I don’t think it’s unhealthy as long as one maintains the separation of fantasy and reality. Maybe embarrassing, if someone peeks over your shoulder, though!
