I’m thinking he got side by side with the cat and managed to get the neck into the crook of his arm and then just locked it in until it stopped fighting.  Seems like the safest way to avoid too much damage from flailing claws and such.  

I wonder what it feels like to have eight 3-4" claws of an asphyxiating 80 pound mountain lion sunk into your flesh. I mean, I went to a petting zoo once and was bitten by a rooster. It hurt like a bitch and nearly broke skin, but I don’t think that’s exactly the same thing.
