Good point. I guess the next semantic-esque question is: Do you mean tuned for speed or tuned for sound?
My (possibly ignorant) response would be, is the Zonda’s exhaust tuned or is that good ol’ engine and exhaust tubes? The list is specifically exhaust notes that have been tuned to sound awesome.
AFAIK it’s to overcome some of the limitations of the asphalt and the tires. Make sure everything is as tacky as possible. They’ve been using it since the 70s if i remember correctly.
If you ever get the chance to go to an NHRA event, be sure to stay until the end and walk out on to the track. But be sure you have your shoes tied on extra tight! I saw a guy step down in his boots and the boots didn’t come back up when he took his next step.
I wonder if you’d get any wheelspin on a drag strip prepped for the top fuel guys. They spray down drag strips with VHT. People can literally walk out of their shoes walking across this stuff and top fuel dragsters still break loose with relative ease.
