I will say that that is exactly how I imagined it would end up when I started reading the series, simply because "the hero always gets the girl" and Hermione's in a good position to end up as the protagonist's lover.

If I remembered correctly Hermione was showing some... Jealousy I suppose, when Harry was with Cho; the almost-love-triangle scenes in book 7 were pretty glaring though.
