The human mind is a master at adaptation. If you’re in one of these rural, predominantly Republican parts of America you learn without being taught that to fit in, to be comfortable, you follow that party. To do otherwise brings conflict at school, at the workplace, at church, with friends, etc. Who wants that? It’s

I know, right?

I grew up as one of those brainwashed yokels. Believed the GOP party line, chapter and verse. But if you have any degree of intellectual curiosity you eventually get exposed to outside ideas. I’m not the only one in my hometown social circle who saw the light. Those that remain brainwashed choose to remain brainwashed.

Seriously. Back when Jeff Sessions ran for his Alabama Senate seat in 2014, he ran unopposed. “Hi, we’re the DNC. We show up every 4 years to remind you how fucking stupid you backwater hicks are. Vote for us!”

My initial response isn’t positive, but I’m gonna try and overcome the urge to curse at them for their bad behavior and choices.

So I posted this on another thread, but there’s a big Vox piece I suggest people read.

White supremacy makes a sheriff believe he doesn’t need to obey the law and then demand a jury .. all the way to the Supreme Court. White. Supremacy.

Thank you swing state voters for giving us a majority right wing supreme court for generations to come.

I guess the Supreme Court decided to do one small good thing in the melange of horrible things they also did today.

But this is where we are. Those that voted for rump. I hope we reap what we sowed. I’ll say I told you so. Your grandchildren will curse you. Society suffers from stupidity. God blesses kindness and those that care for others. You ain’t praising right kids.

Clearly the fact that 60 million voted for Trump is ultimately the most distressing and shameful thing of all.

Well there are always going to be slackers. And truth be told, if they didn’t care enough to vote, there’s a good chance they don’t really care about the awful things that Trump is doing right now. Hillary got a lot of votes. She got my vote and I did not feel like voting for her, but come on, I couldn’t say I didn’t

I’m also talking about the people, safe in the knowledge that Trump had no real shot at victory, decided not to vote at all. That way they could have their cake and eat it too by not having to suffer under a Trump presidency, but be able to still claim the moral high ground by saying they didn’t actually vote for

THE PERFECT IS ALWAYS THE ENEMY OF THE GOOD! HILLARY DIDN’T GIVE ME THE TINGLY FIZZIES THEREFORE SHE’S JUST AS BAD AS TRUMP! BERNIE WOULD HAVE WON EVERYTHING WHILE RIDING A MAGICAL UNICORN MADE OF LOVE AND HAPPINESS AND FREE TUITION AND DEPENDS ADULT UNDERGARMENTS!

I always say if it’s between a person who will show their feelings for you with anything between a passionate embrace to a friendly pat on the head, and a person who you know for certain is going to blow your head off with a shotgun, you gotta go with the shotgun because at least you KNOW what you’re going to get

Ugh, please don’t remind me. I was screaming from late 2015 that the 2016 election was going to decide what kind of Supreme Court we would have for the next 20 years... mostly to very confused faces, and reassurances that I worry too much.

And they great part is, you knew exactly what you were getting with the rotting fish, and you got it. The contractor might’ve done a great job or a moderately OK job or somewhere in between, and who can live with that level of uncertainty?

Hey, at least it’s a change! You know, it’s like when I wasn’t really happy with my kitchen and thought about remodeling it. Well, the contractor was taking too long and spent too much time emailing about the details of the job (and he wasn’t really energetic, big turn off) so instead I just decided to throw a couple

It was like Trump said during the election:

You are absolutely correct; “Joey TwoCones” is magnificent! Thank you.
