Had the same scenario as the author happen to me on a recent build. I was using the stock AMD cooler while waiting for parts to arrive for my aftermarket cooler. I’ve built dozens of PCs and it’s never happened to me. I assumed it was due to the crummy stock paste they put on the CPU cooler...
