@kikilikesthecinema: Eh, when I was there, students put on a well-attended showing of the Vagina Monologues each year. Which is why this "controversy" surprises me. And the county in which Dartmouth sits votes blue regardless of what the rest of the state does.

@Little Bumble Bee: One day I'll get my Star!: True, but the average cost of weddings in the US has skyrocketed. I think it's currently near $20,000, which I would suggest most people in the US can't "afford." But we love finding ways to go into debt.

@msmoneypenny misses MizJ: I understand that was the theory, and maybe it worked for some of the candidates, but Dems risk losing their own base if they skew too far right in order to compete against conservatives. I think that's part of what happened in VA when we lost our democratic governor a year after Obama

@msmoneypenny misses MizJ: What's interesting is that the "blue dog" moderate democrats are the one's that took the biggest hit in this election. The most progressive democrats only lost a few seats, while the blue dogs lost (I believe) about half. I would think it would be the blue dogs who would be most likely to

@Bonster: I don't really do college parties anymore, but I see them on all kinds of dresses and skirts that I pick up. It's always some item that I think is really cute from the front and then I turn it around and there's this gold zipper going right down the bum. So disappointing.

Kate Hudson looks stunning, but WHAT is with this exposed zipper trend. It just looks tacky and unfinished.

@lepas: She's always had the shopping addiction. I believe there was a piece on Entertainment Tonight or some such show about her hoarding - they brought in an organizer to help her redo her closet/room.

@theopellate: I wear knee-high socks all winter. I don't usually do the tights/long-johns under pants (not quite cold enough here for that most days), but knee-high socks combined with a knee-length coat will go a long way towards keeping my legs warm without the extra bulk under my pants.

@Penny: @puppytails: By the by, I need some new ones if my fellow earmuff-fans have any suggestions! Non- (or faux-) fur, preferably.

@tempfancy: Sure. I still think it's useful to avoid taking off your gloves in a crowded train - you see abandoned gloves everywhere on the metro because it's easy to lose track of of them in the hustle and bustle of the commute.

My personal tip: mittens with a flip top are awesome for commuters. When I get to the metro, I don't have to waste time taking off my gloves to find my metro card. Just flip off the mitten-top and your fingers are free to dig around in your bag, or play with your iphone, or whatever you need to do. It will save

@Penny: I'm an enormous fan of earmuffs for keeping your ears warm

@gherkinfiend: I'm skeptical because they actually tried it here before and it was such a bust. As we know, American remakes of British successes can be very hit or miss!

Stop trying to make Skating with the Stars happen, people.

@JerseyGrrrl: Some of what you describe is, in my mind, just rudeness. If anyone lets a door slam in my face, I'm perturbed. I also think it's kind to offer anyone who is overburdened your seat on a train if you have no real need for the seat (although, I so rarely see that happen). It's common human decency.

@thinksmall: Oh, you are right! I saw it when she was walking down the runway and then when they flashed to Tim/Mondo backstage, no necklace. It didn't click until you said something. I wonder if they retaped the models walking for that backstage shot.

@samplesize: I may not agree with you, but I'm promoting your comment for the diversity of opinion. Well-written defense of Gretchen.

@Interrobanging: I realize that mothers are subject to quite a lot of judgment, especially when it comes to the decision whether to breastfeed. So I understand where you sensitivity is coming from. But I think this is one case where it's not about moms judging other moms, but an opportunity to help struggling
