@DanseManatee: I'm not saying every single person looks at porn and immediately adjusts their expectations accordingly. But when porn bombards men (and also women) with the message that these women of a certain body type are sexually desirable (and there are certain oft-repeated body types in porn), it influences

@DanseManatee: Do you seriously think that people believe the models in fashion magazines are realistic depictions of the everyday woman? They are all fantasy, the depiction of some "ideal." Your explanation is too simplistic.

@envirodesigner: I imagine the judge set a date on which she has to report to jail. If that date had come already, we would be hearing about it. So she's probably jumping into rehab in advance of that date because her lawyer intends to file a motion with the court asking the court to change it's mind about the jail

@CasualSubversive: Obviously we don't have a transcript of their conversation, but she wrote in suggesting that he requested that she get implants. I'm trying to take her question at face value, while it seems to me that Prudence may have read into it something that wasn't there.

@DanseManatee: Then why do we bother examining and critiquing images in the media (of which porn is one type) every day on this site? If we're all "reasonable" enough to distinguish them from reality?

@roodles: I'm sort of baffled at the people here arguing that extensive watching of porn has no affect on men's preferences, ever, for anyone. This is a website that devotes a good deal of its posts to images in other forms of media and how they affect our own body images and the public's expectations of what is the

@CasualSubversive: "My boyfriend recently told me that he would like it if I got breast implants. I am a B cup, and although he says he loves my body, he adds, "But I'd really like it if your breasts were larger.""

@Cerridwen: I came the conclusion I need to go to Berlin every few years to get a fix. I freaking love that city. It's constantly changing, full of history, and I always find something new to see or do. I studied there in college 10 years ago and have been back twice since. Hoping to go again in the next year I

@AllieCaulfield: Look, this is my problem with even speculating on Mel Gibson's mental illness as it relates to his behavior. I'm quoting someone else's post (a domestic violence victim's advocate who is also bipolar) because I think it explains it better than I could:

@MissMollyKate: Thank you so much. You said that better than I've been able to, especially with respect to "othering" the behavior.

@AllieCaulfield: Well your comments suggest you care more about the abuser than the abused woman and child in this case. Your comments on every one of the Mel Gibson posts on this site which suggest you don't know a whole hell of a lot about the cycle of abuse. I've seen too many people in my life take this tact

@AllieCaulfield: Pay attention to the news sometime. How often to do we see a woman being murdered by her boyfriend/husband/lover? And when does that murder happen? When she tries to leave him. Statistics show that a woman's life is in most danger when she tries to leave her abuser. If Oksana was trying to leave

I've seen a number of the "He's sick, I feel bad for him" comments, and I just don't buy it. Does he have a mental disorder? Or sure, maybe. I don't know. But his behavior is classic abusive behavior. I don't see any basis to explain what he did and said on any said mental disorder when it falls so neatly in line

@AllieCaulfield: It's a baseless question if she's actually following the reports. She did call the police, they have the tapes, and are investigating charges against Mel. Someone leaked them to the media, and even if it was her, I don't blame her. The public is terribly protective of its celebrities. Without the

@hausfrau76: I had two girl scouts come to my door this year (and a mom). Unfortunately for them, I was home sick from work and had lost my voice. I probably scared them with my croaky voice.

@Neroon: That sucks. At my old law firm, I always used to buy from the firm librarian. I'm not sure if that speaks to some sort of egalitarianism or, more likely, the paucity of women in authority at my firm.

I can't watch this video because I'm at work, but did she address the fact that, the next day, she went off about how Oksana is a gold-digger - as if, even if it's true, it's the slightest bit relevant to his physical and verbal abuse of his ex-girlfriend?

@chelseamorning: Telling people you are married is TMI? So I guess I'll stick with updates about the weather, since that might be the only thing that doesn't offend someone.

@hfree: This was the one style of jeans all of my friends wore in college - miraculously, they worked on all us (and I was the only one rocking thick thighs). It was like our own traveling pants! I haven't bought a pair in awhile, but for a good 7-8 years, this was my style.

My boyfriend and I are a study in opposites when it comes to mosquitoes. His main advice is "don't scratch it!" as he watches his bites fade away 10 minutes later.
