That is just.too.sad.

German cars ARE perfect. hater.

We recently had a 1974 mid-engine 914 catch fire at the race track, so it's probably lack of documentation vs. lack of occurrence. :)

You can add an extinguisher to any Porsche...for $655.00

God, that is just beautiful.

Were you on site when this happened?

I have never spilled gas on the paint of any car I've owned — even my first car, a sweet 1985 Honda Civic Si. Unfortunately manufacturers have to account for gross misuse/mishandling/neglect on the part of owners. R.I.P. 918 :(

Steve was a genius, but he isn't remembered for his kindness. Ultimately you get to choose what kind of (parking) behavior you put out into the world, regardless of how much real estate you own or how expensive your ride is. :)

Owning the bldg and parking lot does not make it OK to park like a douche.

But the paint on those falls off when you touch the door handle!

Exactly. Pick a good spot for your baby, but taking 2 makes you a douche, even if you drive your 918 to work. Ok, maybe not that car...

There is intense and beautiful freedom in driving a car which you are not cosmetically worried about. My husband gave me a Spec Miata that is not cosmetically pretty (but it is hooked up) and my lap times increased immediately because I was not all worked up about damaging it. :)

If the only nearby spot available is next to a questionable parker, I get as far away as possible or leave and come back later.

I stopped reading at "Corolla." If you "drive" an appliance, there is no way you are aware of anything related to it. She may not have noticed how she got to Wallgreens, or that she parked.

I once had a woman who slammed her car door on my brand new Audi Avant tell me, "you should buy cheaper cars if you care that much." Thing is, who cares how much a car is worth? When I park, I respect a Pinto as much as a 911. It's someone else's property.

Both are equally asshatty because they show lack of regard for others. If you take two spots, park parallel over the painted lines in a straight-in spot, or park too close, you're an asshat, just a different subset. Parking is not that hard.

My husband drives an F250 (his work vehicle) and he backs into a normal spot, between the lines. It's possible.

I never take two spots, but I do try to take a far away corner spot and get as close to the curb as possible. My reward for that is often a fool who parks crookedly, ridiculously close to my car. :(

Preach! Give me manual or give me death.

Manual transmissions have been special order for most BMWs for at least a decade now. :(
