Human beings make typos. Most blogs are on a feverish schedule to produce content. If you want to correct a writer’s spelling or grammar, a quick private note is polite. A public calling out is rude and unnecessary and doesn’t make you look smart — just petty.

meanwhile,

Do you think that the weight losses of Jake Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler and Matthew McConaughey in Dallas Buyers Club (where he played an AIDS patient) were about making them more fuckable?

It’s an everything-but-young-white-men bias, honestly. The funny thing is that movies that don’t prominently feature young white men get made, make a ton of money, are sold to wider demographics, are the subject of 10,000 think pieces, and yet nothing really changes in the larger realm of filmmaking.

A male actor changing his physicality to play a sports star is very different from asking a female actor to lose weight so she’ll be f*ckable in a movie where she plays a lawyer.

I answered that question already. They can and will appeal to a much larger demographic — along with a lot of people who are routinely left out of leading roles.

Sadly I think the story goes that they were friends *before* and never really made up. I’m sure they don’t hate each other, but that’s a hard thing to recover a friendship from.

Those Harry Potter premieres must’ve been awkward.

And Emma Thompson’s husband, Greg Wise, is 7 years younger than she is. So why isn’t that being reflected in the roles she’s offered? Don’t be purposefully obtuse.

It seems like most of the denial comes from a place of, “But men prefer younger, more attractive women, so where’s the problem?”

Well, the fact that you could come up with only 4 compared to my 9, and that you’ve included Uma Thurman who is widely regarded to be very attractive, would suggest that yes — you do need to go on.

Of course they’re required to be attractive. Amy Poehler, Amy Schumer, Tina Fey, and Sarah Silverman have all talked about the way that studios demand they lose weight for roles, or put more effort in their appearances compared with male counterparts doing similar roles in similar movies.

The last movie where Emma Thompson played a romantic female lead (Last Chance Harvey, 2009), her leading man was Dustin Hoffman who was 71 at the time, compared with Emma Thompson who was 50.

It hurt me more than you know.

I mean, he’s not handsome. That doesn’t mean I don’t love him.

But the double-standard is that most female comics are still “required” to be hot, with very few exceptions.

Really — for men and women? Most female comics, or women in comedic roles, are still required to be traditionally attractive.

If you’re a guy.

Not being rude, but I genuinely cannot understand what you’re trying to say here.

Now try to list the female actors who are “unconventional” but still get leading roles.
