I can think of two reasons that I haven't seen explicitly mentioned in the thread so far, although only the second really applies to the Google Glass situation.

Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol was another example of great, clear editing in the action sequences. Brad Bird did a great job with that.

I totally misunderstood this figure, and assumed that the little bearded guy was some sort of anthropomorphized beer belly.
