Dude, you're on Kotaku. There are so many men here angry at women for threatening their power, of course they're gonna clump together and start screaming.

Out of random curiosity... Would anybody out there be genuinely upset if there were more female characters in video games than men?

As little as Sarkeesian mentioned her critics, I sensed that a lot of the start of her talk was designed to address their criticisms. First, she seemed to be challenging claims that she thinks games make people do things. "When I say that media matters and has an influence on our lives, I'm not saying it's a 1:1

This is so great. I love that we're moving towards implementation of the criticism. It's totally necessary to point out what's broken, but it's also very important to talk about how the broken things can be fixed. Implementation is critical, and I wish we talked about it more.

The fact that this has any stars at all is so deeply and profoundly concerning to me.

She's been warped and distorted into a toxic individual by others. She's just fine.

Oh look, someone questioning Anita's "gamer cred" right off the bat.

I'm gonna make a bingo sheet for all of the various Tropes vs Anita In Gaming that GG and its offshoots have spawned and mark them off as the comments for this article come in. That's 1 down.

She said she'd written Gamergate off, that there was no convincing them. She wanted to reach "fence-sitters," people "who are like, 'I'm interested, and I don't know if I agree with you, and I'm curious.'"

I'm not a GTA player myself, but I feel like that if I were, I would rather this be the scenario than them releasing an unfinished and broken game.

Release a game with bugs - gamers get mad

"seems like it became an awful slog a long time ago… I sure gave up a while back." "That series has been treading water for years."

This is a vitally important quote.

Game development isn't the entire team works up until release then starts a new game. You have several teams. You have foundational development, mature development, testing, QA, etc. Each of these teams necessarily works in series.

DLC takes less time to develop because foundational

As an oncologist, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for such a well-written explanation of why this stuff drives us crazy.

But, your name is wrong.

I felt the exact same way by the end of the story. When she then adds "and I was seven months pregnant" I about fell out of my chair. I don't think it is illegal to think that both the companies that hired/fired the guy *and* their choices sucked.

Probably, but at least I don't breed creatures into a shit life and make other beings suffer due to my choices.

Why is this so needlessly complicated. . . sigh.

You can afford pulling out with or without a job for christs sake.

Even though they're victims of unstable companies with unscrupulous HR practices in a high-turnover industry, it's not "victim blaming" to point out that they made poor choices themselves.

A year and a half later, we were told he would be laid off in two months. I was seven months pregnant. Our insurance would end two weeks before the baby was due.
