Yeah, but then my two incredibly well-reasoned comments would be for naught! Please don't tell me I'm wasting my life. Please.
Emily from xoJane here — It is my understanding from the piece and speaking with the author that the students are housed on Disney property. I stand by the headline as accurate. That was the author's emotional truth.
i think the picture that accompanied it made it worse than the headline did. With the two of them together you think you're about to read an article about a child who got raped while on vacation in Disney World.
And Jezebel never uses misleading headlines.
There are so many things wrong with this post that everybody should just start over. Delete it, rewrite it, and bring it back tomorrow.
It Happened to Me: I Read the Headline of this Jezebel article and Thought Jane Pratt had made a False Rape Accusation
What I think made the headline most misleading was the picture! Its a like 9 year old little girl at Disneyland. So it wasn't all the story I expected, and I noticed the misleading title too.
"She does not say whether or not his apartment was provided by Disney (participants "have the opportunity to request off-site housing," according to the program's website), but whatever the case, the housing most certainly is not in the theme park. Summer employees are not bunking in Cinderella's castle or sleeping in…
I wish this surprised me, but it doesn't, because a large chunk of America thinks this way. I doubt she has spent a lot of time reading about rape culture, or spent time thinking about victim blaming. I do wish someone would have a discussion about this with her. I doubt the reporter felt they were in a position to…
According to Serena . . .
I'm pretty much done with anyone who describes rape as a "something stupid." Leaving the house wearing new pants that still have the size sticker on them is doing something stupid. Rape is a fucking felony. Learn the difference, world.
Well done. Now, Mr. Harmon, do you think you can go talk to the douchebags over at Vice about how to apologize properly?
i think our generation's values are shifting from 100 percent about the family to achieving personal goals
Bridget Jones' Diary had a tidy name for you folks: Smug Marrieds. You've got it all figured out, because you're married.
Can we also talk about the fact that it's A HUGE FUCKING DEAL if a woman is uncomfortable changing her name to that of her husband's? The arguments for it are breathtakingly stupid and insane. Some I've heard, cause they all try to make it out like it's not sexist for me to somehow take my husband's name...
People are still moving in together, buying property together, sharing household expenses, and having children together. There are just fewer people getting that little piece of paper saying they're married. I fail to see what that has to do with being "selfish" and unwilling to compromise with someone else.
Women don't want to be with the sort of men who want wives, because the sort of men who want wives also want their wives to continue to behave traditionally, and women don't want to have to do everything.
I would so love a stand up Kitchen Aid mixer.
My fellow straight men take note: gay and lesbian couples have it right. Find yourself a PARTNER not a WIFE, with all the subtext those words contain.
