I had the same thoughts for an Android tablet. Then I realized that, next year, I could easily sell the thing for $250 less than I paid for it and have much more enjoyment than that out of it in the mean time!

I've laid out a handful of circuit boards over the years (on computer and once with photocopy resist), I look at their layout with deep envy, for sure. All of my stuff has been "wiring replacement" or breakout boards, but that 4+ layer designing is a whole other beast.
