Sadly, air/fuel mixtures require additional fuel to counteract higher compression loads in a supercharged engine. The amount of energy lost through heat is a bigger loss in a turbo-charged motor (additional air compression, higher back pressures, etc...)

It comes down to HEAT and how an engine protects itself to safely burn fuel without killing itself.

The wah-psh-psh-psh-psh noise is the pressure wave bouncing back and forth off the compressor wheel.
