Because it’s non-functional and serves no purpose.  It’s not a real identity.  Plenty of things are “harmless” that we still wouldn’t want in public, or certainly teach anyone to do in public in a proper setting.

I have a PS2 and a working Sony CRT, which is better than upscaling.  Things just don’t last forever, so I would hope Sony might even be able to release consoles like that.

What are the chances of this stuff happening for a PS1/PS2?  I have a ton of games I’d love to play but can’t locate my old PS2.  Plus it would be cool if they could scale to 1080p so I don’t have to break out the classic Sony CTR, even though I’d love to.

It shouldn’t. That’s like saying a movie is only interesting if it’s constant cut and re-edited, or that a book is interesting if you keep rearranging the chapters. It’s balance in name only, and more broadly it’s balance toward very bland gameplay.
