So much this. I think the Moto G is probably the best case example, 189 gets you 8gb/1gb ram, but 30 bucks more gets you double that. It’s still a bit of a premium, but you pay 30 bucks for more storage AND better performance.

That’s exactly what I was thinking! And you do need a camera with a low shutter speed, too... So at that point, just get a $25 external flash. Or just light paint effectively; no need for Photoshop.

Phones are great for spur-of-the-moment videos because you usually have them with you, but once you start adding mounts, lens adapters, tripods and other gear into the mix you start entering into “Why not just use a better camera?” territory.
