If they were a hardware company you'd think they would do that better than they do advertising. Really advertising is the only thing I see them do really well. Google is in the advertising business but they're about spreading other people's ads vs. making their own.

What lack of the Start menu? Have you seen pretty much ANY picture of Windows 8? They all show the Start menu. It even says "Start" in really big letters. I love using Win 8 and I don't have any icons on my desktop. I think I have one pinned to my task bar.
Yeah, the way Start works is basically the same as win7. Click the lower left corner and start typing. Or Click the lower left corner and click All Programs.

Yes you can start typing with Start open and the program will appear. If you do want to "hunt" it's easier to find in Win8 than it was in 7.
Try it. The Start screen has fewer clicks to load a program than the old Start menu. I too have been using Win8 for a few months now and find it much faster to navigate.
