Some people are insensitive to Asians of the same culture who grew up in the west, too.

1. Second and third gen people aren't really immigrants unless they came off the plane with their parents/grandparents and grew up here.

Just wondering if the room was near the kitchen or on the main floor.

African-American or African-Fill-in-the-blank-country. African-American and black aren't synonymous. #justsayin

Wow. I can understand the teacher in Korea's situation, but it isn't like Calgary doesn't have any Asians. I mean, if you have a T&T Supermarket (Asian supermarket) or two, you have a good number...

Dirty chai? Sounds like a fancier version of a yeen yeung - a mixture of Hong Kong milk tea (very strong black tea and evaporated/condensed milk) and coffee.

Yeah, but they're probably told what to do by their managers in Korea or risk losing their contract.

The skintone thing is a big deal in many parts of Asia. Having grown up in North America, I never realized I was considered "dark" for an Asian until I was in high school - that was when people started to ask me whether I was Filipina.

Or, do they not count, because these women are also generally upper class in their home countries (I'm thinking of people like Soong Mei Ling (aka Madame Chiang Kai-Shek), who graduated from

I mean, I do kind of have a shopping habit (though I'm not NEARRRRLLLLY as obsessed with Prada/LV as some Asian ladies I've come across). I do

I thought it was V-E Day.

Wonder what the Evangelicals would think....

But does the Pope even like him?

Wasn't Amherst co-ed by the time this woman graduated from Smith?

Well, that doesn't explain many parts of East Asia, where it's not uncommon for kids to go to cram schools. And honestly, some East Asians (more specifically, Hong Kong Chinese) I grew up with could probably out WASP many so-called WASPs. And most of them are "new upper middle class" too.

A lot of my friends seem to use both names - either officially or unofficially - and without a hyphen. It's funny how choice are usually, keep, change or hyphenate, while adding is not really an option. And because this is what I chose to do, a lot of people technically get my name wrong since they think it's

Yep...coffee...but we knew that already. :)
