Studying? Internships usually happen in the summer or during an off semester. When you're interning for credit, the hands-on experience during the placement IS studying. And if you're required to keep a journal (as I did), it really doesn't take long to write about the day.

Possible, but very rare, I would think. Now if she were 5'5" or 5'6" at that weight, then it's a different story (still rare, but there are many more people like that (e.g. my mom before she had me)).

Hanging out with a lot of guys under the age of, say 30 (i.e. the first group of people born after the one child policy)? If that's the case, it's not a Chinese thing, but an only child thing. As for rudeness in general, a lot of people from Hong Kong can attest to it. There's a lot of ranting about tacky mainland

This totally sucks and I don't think it's too easy to change. Confucianism is so deeply rooted that doing something remotely "different" is just seen as...weird (personal experience here in terms of career choice). As for sexuality, I know people who I suspect are gay, and they still married someone of the opposite

hehe no worries, I'll follow you back :)

I'm a complete Pinterest addict. It's not just about pinning things that one likes/sharing ideas, but I think it could be a new way for style bloggers to share their looks/outfit posts. By the way, if anyone wants to follow me, I'm at [www.pinterest.com]

Maybe it's just me, but the packaging looks similar to the pseudo vintage look that Benefit uses for most of its products. #amicrazy

Yep, there go Halloween, Christmas, Valentine's Day and Easter...

I don't necessarily call my internships, internships unless they were for school credit. Since some were not exactly titled, I'd create one that was of equivalent level, yet more ummm, "high sounding."

Or they are positions that Mommy and/or Daddy got for the intern (and are therefore, wanted).

That. Because I highly doubt she went into the job NOT knowing that it's unpaid. I've had two unpaid internships in my life (one was a placement for school and we were told by faculty not to expect any compensation other than the occasional free meal and the other was a mess that I don't want to get into.)

J.Crew's also guilty (and I mean verrrrrrry guilty) of vanity sizing. Every small-framed petite blogger knows this and I'm pretty sure most of us aren't happy (well, I'm not).

Guess they didn't want to hire a hair person??

Thanks for the info. I wasn't sure whether many immigrant/first/second gen French women were middle to upper middle class or not (which I assume the majority of African and Afro-Carribean women in France are).

Don't we also have to look at income demographics? How many black women in France can afford the clothes featured in Elle (that said, based on stats, Elle Canada and US Elle should probably have way more East Asian and possibly Middle Eastern cover girls).

If you look at it this way, then no one "has it good" - not even people in Scandinavian. #justsayin

I'm glad I live in 2012 and in Canada, yes. I think we arguably do better in enforcing rights/freedoms than many other countries, even if said countries officially have similar laws. For women in general, it's better here than even Hong Kong, where there are many more women in positions of power. There, practically

Specifically, I'm talking about China and Chinese-influenced cultures (especially in the past - my grandmother's generation and before that). And I said that women have power AFTER the son grows up and gets married. Historically, in China and Chinese-influenced cultures (pretty much most of East Asia), wives,

This is why I'm glad I live here and not in some more "traditional country" where this kind of behaviour is more widespread. While I haven't heard of moms being killed in say, China, baby girls definitely are. Sure, women have "power" in some traditional countries, but it isn't until she has a boy AND that boy grows

Levinson? So Lady Grantham and the girls are (or might be) Jewish? That would be an interesting twist.
