Can't you be an Arab and still be Jewish? Something tells me that they're avoiding other terms...

@doodly: You probably don't get to make fun of your parents' photos like a friend of mine....her parents had a full on 1970s wedding, with her dad in a powder blue suit...too bad my parents married in the early 70s, JUST BEFORE they were the coolest thing to wear!

@randomnessish: I thought he was going to make Blasian (Blackenese?) babies with me!

@rixatrix is the girl who lived: At 20, I still had a bit of baby fat and looked like I was 15. I'm probably prettier now than I was in university.

I have always wanted to leave uber-religious/Duggar-like people a note like this:

They made her skinny the same way they probably stretch many celebrity "models" who happen to be very short (like real petite-5'4" or below short).

@rawrsydney: Botox makes you look "less Asian" Really? Cuz my mom's had it done and she still looks Asian...

Palin pretty much falls into the same category of people who vocally freak out when they see whole animals being served in old world style restaurants. You know, the same people who go to Europe or Asia (if they actually do, that is) and only dine at McDonald's, Pizza Hut and MAAAAAYYYYBE Starbucks (maaaaayyybe

@najmah: That sounds like what my mom told me when I asked her why in Chinese period pieces (ones which take place in the early 20th century - circa 1920s-ish), the women are almost always in Chinese clothes, while the men are in suits...still sounds sexist to me, though. You know, it's men=outside the home,

@Forglemmegei: I think it *IS* a good idea. There are plenty of people who come into new countries completely ignorant of the customs. They don't have to follow some (especially the superficial ones), but it's good to know that it exists. You don't want any faux pas or even fights with your own kids who adapt to

@PICKLES_IN_MY_TUNA: Just black socks with sandals? I thought we were looking at banning ALL socks with sandals!

@leviathan: Yeah, but the clothes aren't westernized at all. They are most definitely from the old country. We aren't talking westernized skirts and sweaters or blouses.

You know what really bothers me? How oftentimes, South Asian Muslim men wear western clothes while their wives and moms are in clothes from the old country. It seems really sexist to me. It's like the women don't wear clothes in the "new country" because it's "wrong" for them.

@DinaRonson : Elizabeth Cady Stanton: Ehh...it's not just about WHO her parents are. For some people, it's nearly impossible to have a small wedding, even if their parents are Joe and Jane Average. My parents (Chinese) and my fiance's parents (Jewish) would freak out if we told them that we want to have a 30 person

One reason why I thought of becoming Anglican before deciding that church was not for me.

I never got the whole Cookie Monster thing. He's COOKIE MONSTER. I think his species rely on cookies for survival.

Question on the whole stereotype/racism thing: When can something NOT be turned into a stereotype? I mean take a look at this:

Looks like they have their own Snooki (re: the really petite girl)

I don't think two people with very different religious or cultural views can ever be successful together without making adjustments. If say, your religion doesn't drink and you are marrying a Roman Catholic, where wine plays an important role in the actual ceremony, watch for people in your family get upset. There
