I should add this: Maybe Daddy is just anti-Atwood. Most Canadian kids have to read at least one Atwood book in his/her education lifetime. We read Lady Oracle in Grade 10.

@PetiteGal: I should also add that these kids could possibly do a better job/have better ideas than what our current government is doing.

That Trebek show (it's actually Canada's Next Great Prime Minister) is some reality show for young people 18-25. I'd do it, but I'm too old!

I'd never give any kids I have "unfortunate" names. I'm a big fan of names derived from Judeo-Christian tradition, even though my first name is PAGAN, PAGAN, PAGAN. My name rarely appears in literature either (I've seen Cynthia once in Elizabeth Gaskell's book, Wives and Daughters...and the girl is a BITCH).

I guess the parents all voted McCain.

@Blueberrypie: I was an extra in this movie back in the 90s and spent six hours freezing my arse off because we were filming at a school and all the girls were wearing school uniforms with knee socks. At least we were fed.

A little nitpick: Pride and Prejudice was published in 1813, twentysomethin years BEFORE Victoria became Queen. Therefore P&P is really Regency novel.

IS there a way my boyfriend can learn how to be a gentleman? He's nice and all, but he doesn't hold his fork and knife properly and doesn't know about the "finished position."

It's hard to discuss sometimes. I don't like being rude, so it's hard for me to tell, say, my boyfriend's mom, that she doesn't have to offer to take me out for Chinese food or make rice, just because I'm Chinese. (Another issue I've had was that my boyfriend's dad, who is in marketing, seems to think that my online

Seraphina Rose Elizabeth is an ok name. As a fan of more "common" traditional names, I would have preferred Elizabeth Rose. But this name is much, much, much (to the power 9999999999 - names I have in mind for my hypothetical kiddies include Margaret Abigail and Stuart Michael) better than most celeb babies!

@crampyscamp: I thought the book took place in the 50s?

So would the remake of B@T be more true-to-the book? The old Hayes Code prevented any lesbian references...

@coodlebump: And the length is shorter. Pants (trousers) generally have an inseam (inside leg) of 30" (though 31" seems to be creeping in, with the popularity of those really, really high heels), with a higher knee break and shorter rise. Tops are shorter in length, with shorter sleeves.

BI 2: Eva Longoria?

YESS!!!!!!

My mother complains about the places I shop at and thinks that I need to start going to more "grown up" places. You know what I told her? I told her that Michelle Obama wore a dress from H&M and if she could do that as a 40-something, I, at 29, can do the same for another decade and a half.

@mtbee: In Asia, she has this starry-eyed country girl/social climber rep.

Isn't the January issue always really thin anyway?

NO MOVIE, PLEASE! Carrie and Big got married! If they want the whole Cinderella theme (which was played over and over in the movie), Carrie and Big should be allowed to live happily ever after. THE END.
