Notice that besides The Beast and Shang from Mulan, animated Disney "leading men" have very little to do in the movie (even Eric in "Mermaid"!). It's as if their primary reason to be in the movie is to fall in love with the girl.

Seventeen was, at one time, the "smart girl's mag." I recalled articles on health and international issues...it really was teen Marie Claire. My mom wasn't a fan of YM, because it WAS sort of the teen version of Cosmo (and Sassy was too radical), so I wasn't really supposed to read YM until I begged and pleaded at age

@eri401: Mulan wasn't a princess or even part of the aristocracy, I don't think. She was more like Belle in terms of social status.

I think Sleeping Beauty is the only animated Disney movie (that isn't a remake of something else Disney has done) which DOES NOT use original music! Most of it, as I said in a reply upthread, is from Tchaikovsky's Sleeping Beauty ballet. In a way, the movie is a GREAT WAY to get kids interested in "classical" music.

@vivelafat:That's good Synchro!: Well, the Disney version isn't based on the original story, but later sanitized versions of it, including the Tchaikovsky ballet. In fact, most of the music from the Disney movie is from the ballet.

Could she have just been a very closeted/repressed lesbian? It's a possibility, no?

Governor Palin cares about women's issues? WTF are you talking about? Are you one of those people who vote for the woman, no matter what her beliefs are?

@misspie: Thank you, misspie

@Red-headed bookworm: It's about availability/catering to the shorter person and how some short people are sent to the kids' section (kids, not juniors). Alterations really only work when it comes to skirts. It's hard/expensive for tops and jackets because the waist will never be in the proper place without complete

:( Moe.

So when will height acceptance have the same sort of PR as fat-acceptance (sorry, can't call it size acceptance here. Size should include height!)

@farmersdaughter: I wouldn't be surprised. It would have been really weird if the stepmother looked like Tin..um...I mean Sarah Palin.

Canadians and other international people can't see most Hulu vids.

I read this book when I was in elementary or middle school!

I should have a picture of me in some sort of princessy outfit.

It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but she still doesn't have the poise.

Once again, Sarah, it's NEW-KLEE-ER.

Sure you're tolerant, Sarah....sure.

It's new-KLEE-er, Sarah, not New-kew-ler.
