And if it’s the case that they’re obligated to check out accusations.....what’s stopping anyone from complaint-bombing the police with accusations toward the reich-wingers in that town?  Tell ‘em you think they’ve got pornographic material that they’re showing kids, all sorts of stuff, but you don’t want to leave your

Police say that they were obligated to open the probe into the school upon receiving a complaint about Gender Queer

the ACLU of Massachusetts is “very troubled by this notion” that “anytime someone could call” with a complaint about a book like Gender Queer, “they have an obligation to go marching into places wearing a body cam, and… interrogating people.”

Police say…

Is this a #notallsmallstowns response? Yeah, I’ve been to small towns with only the standard amount of racism. However, clearly in this context that’s exactly what the fuck it is.

Jfc...no, no it is not.

Could be. Maybe cuz I’m from a small town and everyone just wanted to leave that my view is skewed. It also seems that those folks would probably not trade their city dwelling for living in an actual small town if it came down to it. “Nice place to visit” and all that. Not so idyllic when you can’t even buy fresh

Maybe, but I think also a lot of city dwellers have this mythical vision of small towns as this idyllic, unspoiled paradise.

Well, fair, but he also has an interest in presenting himself that way to his target audience.

Funny you should say that because it seems to me that often it’s people not from small towns, like Aldean, who romanticize them the most.

I think it’s a way of making yourself feel better about being from a shithole. I don’t know of anyone not from a small town who romanticizes small towns.

I grew up in a town. 10,000 people. Not sure that qualifies as small. I’m romantic for it because I was a kid of the 80s and 90s where you could go out until the streetlights came on. I bet kids everywhere in the 80s and 90s did the same and the small town has nothing to do with it.

They love the idea of having to drive great distances to get to the nearest store because Wal-Mart killed off the local grocery store/drove prices way up and like knowing that in a medical emergency they would need to wait longer to potentially arrive at a hospital I guess?

Fuck if I know.  I’d rather stab myself in the sack than live in a small town.

I grew up in a town that maybe had 3000 people on it’s best day. If you like be at least a 20 minute drive from anything and witness a town that is has been slowly dying since the 80s then it’s the place for you. If my mom wasn’t still there I’d probably have no reason to ever go back.

Seriously. All I can figure is that the sameness makes everything seem alright. If you’re afraid of anything different, seeing the same familiar faces every day is like heaven.

Why do people romanticize small towns so much anyway?

Well, I suppose he could SAY he was “running” all he wants. But it’d be like someone who is under 30 or wasn’t born a U.S. citizen trying to run for President. He wouldn’t be allowed to take office even if he won by write-in. Probably no state would even put him on the ballot in the first place, citing his

Ah now I get it. They can keep him from holding office but not from running.

Article I, Section III: “”Judgment in cases of impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any office of honor, trust or profit under the United States.”
