My reaction at the time was that they were both telling the truth — as they recalled it. I have no doubt the harassment took place, so Anita Hill was not lying. I am also sure that Thomas sincerely believed that his actions weren’t unwanted and weren’t harassment, so he believed he was telling the truth as well.

I worked on those hearings. The most common reaction I heard at the time was from people attempting to be moderate was, “I’m not sure I believe either of them, there’s a lot here that we don’t know.” My reaction was always, “If you don’t believe either of them then you don’t give a lifetime seat on the Supreme Court

On top of being a total asshole concerning Anita Hill, Joe Biden, former senator from MBNA, also authored that Crime Bill people are rightfully pretty upset about right now. And unlike others involved still stands by it. He backed the bankruptcy bill that makes it near impossible to discharge your student loans. Each

“one of the first times workplace sexual harassment earned the national spotlight”

I was a kid during these hearings, and I remember (unfair) sentiments about Anita by the adults who were following the case.
I don’t quite remember exact comments, or exactly who made them, but the impressions I got varied from “if she can’t take the heat...” to “she can’t take a joke” to “she should be grateful”.

I vividly remember those hearings. As a lifelong Democrat I can tell you: everyone on that committee looked like a bumbling idiot. There were no heroes among the Democrats when Anita Hill testified. And I’m not at all surprised that Biden’s people tried to rearrange the facts, given that he was still contemplating a

My understanding is that casting notices for film/tv specify race (among other characteristics) for parts very often. Maybe this is a case where stage performance is different, but let's not pretend like this is new.

“HBO made this movie in an election year to support Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party, which loves to claim that a mythical ‘war on women’ is underway by Republicans,” said Mark Paoletta.

If Hamilton wasn’t wildly successful, no one would care. Now that it’s the hottest Broadway show on the planet white people are all “Wait praise, prestige and high paychecks? That’s my job!”

I’m a little surprised at the framing of this as “tension on set.” This wasn’t an interpersonal conflict. This was Dustin Hoffman being an abusive asshole, full stop.

He was applauded for that comment, but my reaction was WTF?

high priced fundraising dinners in general are bad. that’s the point. the american campaign system is disgusting.

And here’s the youtube version from the Oregonian, for those (like me) who can’t use MSNBC’s shitty flash player:

A young producer at The Rachel Maddow Show came up with that design. It was so popular, the city is now selling copies of the sign, the proceeds of which are benefiting the local parks.

I actually posted about this on io9 but the audience there is a little less receptive ever since the giz merger:

Georgia is where many movies are made now. Especially the big budget ones like super hero movies and the Hunger Games. They would lose millions in business if Hollywood decides to boycott. North Carolina would lose nothing if Hollywood decided to boycott them.

There is not many productions based in N. Carolina, but Atlanta has become almost the third or fourth busiest production hub in the US. It would be major if people started pulling out of there.
