I just watched the teaser trailer linked at the bottom of the article and am now incandescent with rage. Fuck this whole thing, and fuck this piss-poor excuse for ‘journalism’.

“I knew he was trouble,” tee hee! Really? REALLY?

I have to apologize for my other reply to your thread. Not the content, but its length and detail. I was reading Jez at 4 AM last night and I came across this story and it really touched a nerve.

Now playing

I really thought this one worked, even though I didn´t WANT to listen.

They have an opinion, but they don´t have to use it to hurt people, which appears to be what has been happening for three months or more. They hurt his wife, they hurt him, they hurt other family members. They also harmed his relationships with those people which have nothing to do with them (the parents).

I am so happy for you that you have the kind of parents that would actually listen to something like, 'This is not up for discussion.'

I don´t know this guy´s parents, but that is not how it works with my mother. Perhaps a lot of other people have this kind of parents, as well.

I had a mother I did not talk about sex with. However, I moved back in with her for a brief period while between homes (three months between living in Taiwan and moving to Iceland) and there were plenty of judgements. Without asking, she unpacked my bag, found some ... ahem, sexytime things, and told me there was

Ooh. That´s tough. I have co-workers who are from many different countries (I teach at an International School) and the one who is closest to her family goes home every 1-2 months when she can get a cheap flight. The rest of us tend to travel 1-2 times per year, on vacation or trips home.

LOL Yeah, it´s like that. Right on, sister.

Arbor Day. Goddamned nature. Steer clear, I say.

Thank you for posting, everyone in this thread. I was feeling sort of out there for not only leaving my hometown, but feeling as if I had to leave the country behind in order to live the life I wanted.

Not a wedding gown, because I didn´t have a wedding when I got married, but it was a beautiful white dress and I´m still a little sad about it.

All the girls had to wear white dresses at my school for graduation. I picked out a beautiful brocaded pattern in white. After the stupid ceremony, everyone took off their

I see what you´re saying, but I agree with others who say that this is a different sort of joke.

Definitely. I wish we were able to do something like this in the US, to put them aside and not have them underfoot in the restaurant, but I wouldn´t feel safe doing this AT ALL, either.

It is really different. When I first moved here, I was really weirded out by it, like 'OMIGOD, why would you leave your baby outside?!' But now I think it´s really nice.

In Iceland, we leave the baby in the baby carriage outside the cafe so it can sleep and not be disturbed by the noise and heat inside a crowded restaurant. Stroller-age children can get bundled up and left outside to nap, as well. (But you can also choose to bring your kid inside with you, if you want.)

Yeah. That is absolutely true. I do hope that, whatever is happening in her life, she is happy and healthy and pain-free as can be.

That´s also true. There´s been a lot of concern about this because of the situation with her former and current literary agent - are these people manipulating her?

Except that, unfortunately, she was. In 2013, her lawyer and agent convinced her to sign over her IP, To Kill a Mockingbird itself, to him. And she did so. It took the threat of massive lawsuit to get this unethical bastard sign back the rights to Ms. Lee, who had by then had numerous serious health issues.

This is ... strange at best. While I don´t think she should be called mentally ill or compared with anti-vaxxers (what?), I think this might be a case of oversharing on the internet.
