If the only access is via SSL and his security certs are expiring, that's another story.

Depends. It was a long time ago, but luckily it was in a galaxy far, far away- if it was far enough then we are good...

"Starstuff, contemplating the stars"

"Blips on a radar" is quite generous! I would say: 'single pixel of momentary static in the upper left-hand corner of the radar screen that nobody noticed and never meant anything'.

IIRC Bill Bryson in his 'Down Under' book claimed that Australia's interior is so big and so empty that some pseudo-terrorist group with a massive ranch detonated a small nuke and nobody knew about till some time later...does this ring any bells for anybody?

I have to agree. Everything else was really fun to listen to, but Firefly just felt a little...off.

Absolutely excellent. Permission to steal this and post it everywhere all the time?

That was my first thought as well. With some of my TrueCrypt volumes I have a few tremendously interesting passwords that I'm guaranteed to forget in a years time...and I'm not a forgetful person.

Wow thanks- that is really interesting. And kindof happy to know too.

Agreed on all counts. Please let me know when they have at LEAST:

I had never heard before that the population increase might level off. I've always been of the (admittedly undereducated) opinion that it will continue to increase in a compound-interest sorta way. Thank you for bringing this to my attention!

It's a bit of a running joke right now in the scientific community that MS Word spellchecks Hadron to Hardon.

Ha- my best friend used to provide tech support in that palace. I provided tech support in the palace across the road. Super big thanks to Charlie Jane for those unwanted memories on my Thursday morning! :)

Why do we have to publish the method in order to study the virus?

Black Friday just feels so...analog...to me anymore. So 1980s...

My thoughts exactly! As I was watching the trailer I was like- cool...cool....COOL...AWESOME...aw shit, really?

Wow, that's actually quite impressive...

I'm sorry you feel that way- strictly speaking of Cloverfield and PA I & II, those were extremely well done movies where the 'shaky-cam' element actually added to the feel and occasional terror. Were they 'unwatchable' from a made-me-sick-to-my-stomach standpoint?

Not surprised at all...just have a hard time believing all the drama surrounding this painted-over painting...
