I think of the Nexus Player as a standalone Android device. Chromecast needs a phone or tablet to take orders from, so it has its limits, but the Nexus Player doesn't. So, if you can stream your local media straight from your NAS to an Android phone/tablet, you'll be good to go.

Truth. Knock-on is coming to Lollipop, so Google recognized how cool that feature is. The rear button config makes sense with knock-on (ie. barely used anyway) and becomes second nature after a week or so. People just didn't give it a chance. And the benefit is them skinny bezels... So skinny.
